You have your TG EAMCET rank. Now comes the question every student in Telangana asks at 2 AM after results day: “Which college am I actually going to get?” This guide answers that question properly, with real cutoff data from 2025, trends for 2026, and a college-by-college breakdown of Hyderabad’s top engineering institutes.
The TG EAMCET 2026 cutoff refers to the closing rank at which admissions stop in each round of counselling for a specific college and branch. It is not a fixed number. It changes every year based on the number of students who appeared, how hard the paper was, how many seats are available, and which colleges and branches students prefer most. That said, the trends from 2024 and 2025 give us a very accurate picture of what 2026 will look like.
One important 2025 development worth knowing: the non-local quota was removed, meaning students from Andhra Pradesh can no longer compete for Telangana local quota seats. This caused cutoffs at top colleges like Osmania University and JNTUH to drop noticeably compared to 2024. For 2026, similar trends are expected, which is actually good news if you are a Telangana student.

What Does TG EAMCET Cutoff Actually Mean?
A lot of students confuse the qualifying cutoff with the college admission cutoff. They are two different things and mixing them up causes a lot of unnecessary panic.
Qualifying Cutoff
The minimum marks you need to be eligible for counselling. For OC and BC candidates, this is 40 out of 160 (25%). SC/ST candidates have no minimum qualifying marks.
College Admission Cutoff
The closing rank at which a specific college and branch stops taking admissions in a counselling round. This is what determines whether you actually get the college you want.
Qualifying is the easy part. Getting into a good college at a good branch is where the real competition is. The rest of this guide is about the second part.
📊 What Determines the TG EAMCET 2026 Cutoff?
Several factors play into where the cutoff lands each year. The number of students who appeared in the exam, how difficult the paper was, how many seats are available at a particular college, and how popular that branch is among students are the main ones. When top scores drop (as they did in 2025 from 155 to 150), cutoffs tend to fall slightly too, giving more students a chance at better colleges.

Reality check: Everyone wants CSE at JNTUH or CBIT. Not everyone can get it. But here is the thing: a rank of 8,000 at a good college studying AI/ML or Data Science in 2026 has better career prospects than CSE at a mediocre college with a rank of 800. Pick the branch and the placement record, not just the name.

Category-Wise Cutoffs: SC, ST, BC and OC
The cutoff numbers shown in this guide are for OC (Open Category/General) candidates, which is the most competitive category. If you belong to a reserved category, your cutoff range is considerably more relaxed and gives you access to better colleges at higher ranks. Here is a broad overview:
Category
CSE Top Colleges Cutoff
What This Means
OC
Below 2,500 (top colleges)
Most competitive. Every mark matters.
BC-A/B/C/D
Below 7,500 (top colleges)
More breathing room. Good colleges accessible at rank 5,000 to 8,000.
SC
Up to 12,000 (top colleges)
Significant relaxation. Top colleges accessible well above OC cutoff.
ST
Up to 20,000+ (top colleges)
Very lenient. Even rank 15,000 to 20,000 can access CSE at decent colleges.
💡 2025 Update Worth Noting: With the removal of the non-local AP quota, competition for Telangana reserved category seats has also reduced slightly. SC and ST students in particular saw better seat allotments at top colleges in 2025 compared to 2024. This trend should carry into 2026.

Counselling Tips: How to Use the Cutoff Data Smartly
Knowing the cutoffs is only useful if you apply them correctly during the web options entry process. Here is how to approach your counselling choices like someone who has thought it through:
1
Fill all your rounds with options, not just round one
Many good seats open up in round two and three as students shift between colleges. Do not treat round one as your only shot. Keep your web options list diverse across tiers.
2
Take the allotted seat, then try to upgrade
Experts consistently advise students not to wait for a better seat by rejecting what they have. Take the seat, report to college, and then exercise your upgrade option in later rounds if something better opens up.
3
Treat CSE, AI/ML and Data Science as roughly equal
In 2026, the difference in placement outcomes between CSE and AI/ML or Data Science at the same college is negligible. If you cannot get CSE at your preferred college, AI/ML or DS is not a downgrade.
4
Cross-check branch codes on the official counselling portal
Branch codes are important during web options entry and confusing them is more common than you would think. Always verify the exact branch code at tgeamcet.nic.in before locking your preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will TG EAMCET 2026 cutoffs be higher or lower than 2025?
Based on trends, 2026 cutoffs are expected to be broadly similar to 2025, possibly slightly lower. The removal of the non-local AP quota has permanently reduced competition for Telangana local quota seats, and this structural change is here to stay. The actual cutoff will also depend on how difficult the 2026 exam turns out to be.
Do intermediate marks affect my TG EAMCET rank?
No. Starting from 2025, Telangana removed the 25% IPE weightage. Your TG EAMCET 2026 rank will be based entirely on your exam score. Intermediate marks have zero impact on your rank or college admission in Telangana.
What is the minimum score needed to qualify for counselling?
For OC, BC and EWS candidates, the minimum qualifying mark is 40 out of 160, which is 25% of the total marks. SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying marks, meaning any score makes them eligible for counselling.
Can I get CSE at a good Hyderabad college with a rank of 10,000?
With an OC rank of 10,000, CSE at the top tier colleges like JNTUH, CBIT or Vasavi is unlikely. However, you have a genuine shot at CSE or closely equivalent branches like AI/ML and Data Science at colleges like CVR, CMR and Vardhaman, which have solid placement records. In later counselling rounds, some mid-tier colleges do see their cutoffs stretch to this range even for CSE.
Your rank determines your options. Your options shape the next four years. The time to build a better rank is right now, not after the results come out. Start early, practice smart, and walk into counselling knowing exactly where you stand.
